When you’re buying Cedar Rapids real estate, you’re buying a home in prairie country. You can learn more about what “our American meadow” originally looked like by checking out the local Indian Creek Nature Center, where you can see our native Indian grass and big bluestem, and in the spring, pasque flowers and prairie smoke.  How you landscape your own yard, though, is up to you.

What do Mamie Eisenhower, Ashton Kutcher and the Wright brothers have in common? More than you might think-try a whole town. They all grew up or had houses in Cedar Rapids for some portion of their lives. Of course, our town’s most important resident may still just be looking at Cedar Rapids listings. After all, it’s hard to say. Exactly just what are you doing at the moment?

Are You An Engineer?

Are you an engineer? Know an engineer? Along with low crime and cereal, Cedar Rapids is known for them, with more engineers per capita than any other city in the United States. Now, to be clear, Cedar Rapids homes for sale, while extremely affordable, don’t include an engineer in the sale price. Usually.

Brucemore Mansion is some Cedar Rapids real estate you should know about-it’s Iowa’s only site administered by the National Trust for Historic Preservation. The museum inside documents what it was like to live in Iowa and in that house back in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Two clues: there’s a Titanic connection and a pet lion named Leo buried in the backyard.

What does it mean when Money Magazine calls Cedar Rapids one of the 10 best places to grow up? We don’t know, but we think it might have to do with the crime rate being one fifth the national average, or the highly ranked schools, the 75 parks in the area, or the affordable Cedar Rapids real estate. Or it might be the BMX dirt track just outside of downtown. We’re not sure. You’d have to ask a kid.

If you like baseball, you should know there’s something special about acreage homes in Cedar Rapids and its environs. Less than an hour away you can visit the Field Of Dreams, where Kevin Costner was filmed building his team in the 1989 movie. While we can’t guarantee Shoeless Joe appearing, who knows what will happen when you mow your own backyard diamond?

When you buy a home in Cedar Rapids, you’re buying a home in a community some call the cereal capital. Quaker Oats, the largest cereal company  in the world,  manufactures  breakfast  here in the world’s largest cereal factory. When the flood came to their district of the city in 2008, many thought they might leave. But they didn’t. In fact, they were one of the first places to open their doors again. Like us, they like it here. They’re dug in.
